A caravan can sit for months, look showroom-fresh, and still be running on dangerous rubber. UV, ozone and standing load age a tyre regardless of mileage — cracking in the sidewall and between the tread blocks is the tell. The widely accepted guidance: inspect carefully from five years old, and replace by around seven even with good tread. The date is moulded into the sidewall (the four-digit DOT code: week and year).
We check dates, sidewalls and pressures as part of every visit — and we'll tell you honestly if your tyres are fine, because the goal is a safe trip, not a sale.
Caravans and motorhomes run heavy and the spec has to match: correct load index for the plated axle weights, the right pressures for how you actually load, and CP-class tyres where a motorhome's build calls for them. Get this wrong and the first hot motorway mile finds out.
